Censorship
Some way of communication has been censored because “the people” feel uncomfortable when they realized the communication that they received. The art of communication is music. MTV (a music program) has censored some music videos, lyrics and programs because “the people” feel offended with content or imagery showed or published.
Beavis and Butt Head is a famous program from MTV. The producers moved, from their channel’s schedule; original 7pm to late night. They edited the word “fire” and controversial scenes from existing episodes before the broadcast. The producers made this decision because a child burns his house after he watched the show, so his parents resolved the program has a high content unsuitable for the people (in these case children). The child’s parents decided not to let him watch the program because is aggressive for him. I think that was the best decision they made, they shouldn’t let him watch the program. The parents have the responsibility to supervise their kids while they watch television; they have to approve and chose the programs correctly that their kids watch.
Apart from this program MTV show music videos and single music. In Michael Jackson’s single “They don’t Care about Us” MTV had to remove the words “Jew me” and “kike me” with “do me” and “strike me”. Some Jewish people felt offended because of this song, but Michael Jackson’ representative argue, “The song used the words to describe prejudice and it poor judgment to select Jewish people as explanatory words”
Actually Michael Jackson didn’t want to offend the Jewish people because some or many of his fans are Jewish people and for that reason he had to edit it. In my opinion he can edit it if he wants but only for the reason of his fans.
“All the Things She Said” by t. A. t .U. is a video that MTV didn’t play because says the word “shit”. Furthermore MTV pulled out because it shows two girls kissing each other. The video was no allowed to play it because the people felt offended and actually the video is very controversial. MTV didn’t play it during the day, only at late night. The song was later played but they removed the word “shit” and left a bank. I think this video was made for people with open mind. The music is free expression.
In conclusion, it is okay when the artist wants to express himself by art, in this case music because we live in a free world. If the people want to see or listen what the artist is expressing is their decision but they cannot close their mouths or minds.
